Major wind storm wracks Antietam

This afternoon around three o'clock a severe wind and rain storm hit Antietam National Battlefield, Sharpsburg and the immediate surrounding area. Tree damage on the park is quite significant though, with one or two exceptions, damage to historic structures
is minimal.

Flag pole at the National Cemetery - many trees down.

One of many damaged fences (here, along Sunken Road)

As during Hurricane Isabel, not a single stone was damaged.

"Chessman" outside of Philly Brigade Park got smacked by a tree.

The witness tree (sycamore) at Burnside Bridge is unscathed.

I was off today and got a call around five from Ranger Keith advising I make a beeline to the park with my camera.

Stay tuned for a fleshed out report, with photos, tomorrow.

I'm so glad no one was hurt and there was only minor damage!
