Autumn Color with the Iron Brigade

As the season draws nearer its close, we were visited, this weekend by reenactors portraying the storied Iron Brigade. Ranger Christie coordinates these incredible successful and popular weekend living history programs, and she also supervises the safety issues surrounding historic weapons demonstrations on the battlefield.

Much of the success of our public program we owe to the conscientious professionalism of our loyal cadre of living historians.

Here are a few views of a lovely fall Sunday at your National Park.

This tidy little encampment was behind Dunker Church this weekend...

providing visitors with numerous picturesque vignettes.

Periodically the small but steadfast group assembled and marched off to the visitor center to provide firing demonstrations.

After which they chatted with visitors.

A very fine and satisfying season is winding down, here...

just north of Sharpsburg.

How much longer do the living history demonstrations run?
