I just finished the book Monocacy: The Battle that Saved Washington by B Franklin Cooling.
I'm not sure what to make of it. I often found my mind wandering while reading it, never a good sign. I found it quite dry and the maps are genuinely terrible. Nonetheless it was a helpful place to start. Next up is former Monocacy Park Ranger Brett W. Spaulding's Last Chance for Victory: Jubal Early's 1864 Maryland Invasion.
People with opinions that I value give it great reviews. I'm looking forward to cracking in on the train ride home tonight.
After that will be the Worthington book.
Ill Keep you posted.
Toiling away in Washington DC,
Ranger Mannie
